Chicago: The Perfect Guide for a Foodie

I was so excited to write a blog post about my most recent trip to Chicago. Once I began writing, I realized a majority of the post was about food. So it made sense to give the food category its own post! Here is a list of restaurants and coffee shops, I visited during my Chicago stay.

GENE’S AND JUDE’S– Gene’s and Jude’s is a small hot dog joint that has been around since 1946. After we walked inside, we noticed the line wrapped around the entire building. Surprisingly, the line went by pretty fast. Gene’s and Jude’s places their hand cut fries on top of their hot dogs. If you want my honest opinion, I wasn’t a big fan because it was just a little too greasy for me. Foodies rave about this place though, so they must be doing something right! I should warn you, they have a no ketchup rule. If you absolutely need to have ketchup on your hot dog, there is a Mcdonalds next door that sells ketchup packets.

LOU MALNATI’S– Lou Malnati’s is a chain restaurant known for their deep dish pizza. I normally don’t like to dine at chain restaurants while traveling, but Lou Malnati’s is a good exception! The Lou is their specialty veggie pizza. I know what your thinking.. spinach on pizza.. disgusting! In my opinion, the Lou had more flavor vs. the meaty pizza options. I recently found out they have a couple locations in Phoenix, so I will definitely be heading back soon!

STAN’S DONUTS– Stop by Stan’s for a donut or two! The lemon pistachio donut is my favorite. The decor is super cute!

DUCK DUCK GOAT– Duck Duck Goat is a fun place to go with a group of people. The portions are small and meant to be shared with the table. It’s a great way to try a bunch of different menu items. Duck Duck Goat is Chinese food with a modernism twist. The beef slab noodles, glass noodles, and fried rice is pretty tasty. The decor is so cute! #wallpapergoals! Request to sit in the red room, I’m obsessed with it.

GARRETT’S POPCORN– Garrett’s popcorn is the perfect snack. We mixed cheddar with caramel almond and pecan popcorn. YUM!

THE HAMPTON SOCIAL- The Hampton Social is one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. I’m a little disappointed they only serve brunch during the weekends, but their lunch menu made up for it! You can’t go to The Hampton Social without ordering a glass of their famous Frose. It is absolute perfection! I am a big fan of their lobster roll too. The decor is chic, fun and girly. You will have lots of photo ops. here!

CHICAGO PIZZA AND OVEN GRINDER CO– Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder Company is the home of the original pizza pot pie! You will want to get there as soon as it opens. The restaurant is in a smaller building, so it fills up fast. We arrived an hour after it opened, and waited for about 40 minutes. It was worth the wait though!

YOLK– Yolk is a chain restaurant in the Midwest serving a wide variety of some of my favorite brunch items. Yolk is known for their Nutty monkey pancakes, which is a chocolate chip pancake covered in peanut butter, topped with bananas and chocolate syrup. They have other unique items like breakfast mac and cheese and red velvet french toast!

LIMITLESS- If you love fancy coffee, you have to visit Limitless Coffee and Tea! I ordered the beet rose latte, which tastes as good as it looks. The charcoal is another fun flavor that looks just as beautiful.
